Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack left him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
